Somali Women’s Ministry Celebrates March 8th

The International Women’s Day was celebrated today in many parts of the world and Somalia and an event to mark the day in Mogadishu was organized by the Federal Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Women’s Affairs and Acting Minister, the Deputy Minister of Education of the Somali government, members of both houses of the Somali parliament, women’s organizations, women’s organizations campaigning for the 30% quota for women and other dignitaries.

This year’s theme for March 8 is that women leaders must achieve a more equitable future as the world fights COVID-19.

Officials attending International Women’s Day on March 8 congratulated Somali women and stressed the need to protect the 30% quota for women in the federal parliament, as well as raising awareness of the coronavirus epidemic.
