Electoral conference to open in Mogadishu

A new round of talks between leaders of the federal government and regional administrations taking place in Mogadishu is in preparation as it was recently reported.

There is no statement from the government about the exact date of the opening of the conference yet.

The two sides have been at loggerheads over the conduct of the election, with no agreed timetable so far.

Deni and Madobe’s trip is based on attending a conference to finalize the September 17th agreement and the decisions of the technical committees that met in Baidoa, Bay region.

The meeting between the presidents of the regional administrations, the central government and the Benadir region will take place in a tent at the Halane headquarters.

The presidents of Puntland and Jubaland have for some time been reluctant to attend the conference of heads of state and regional administrations, subject to strict conditions.

The international community has made strenuous efforts to resolve the election dispute, which has caused major delays, with several meetings between government officials and regional administrations announced by outgoing President Farmajo.

Hirshabelle President Ali Gudlawe Hussein was already in the capital, while other regional leaders are expected to arrive in Mogadishu to begin talks on the country’s elections.
