Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed issued a press release regarding his meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Nairobi on Friday.
The meeting, organized and financed by their sub-clan elders, was intended to push the two men to find common ground on national issues that radically oppose them.
Among the contentious issues listed in the communique are the reworking of the constitution, the country's political turnaround and the dispute between President Mohamud's government and the regional state of Puntland.
In all cases, according to Sharif, the president has been inflexible. As a result, Sharif felt obliged to abandon the talks, since Mohamud had made no effort to make concessions for the sake of the nation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been summoned to Nairobi to listen to his Kenyan counterpart's proposal to defuse the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia.
President William Ruto, in coordination with Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh, wants to convince the Somali president to give Ethiopia access to the Red Sea before Ethiopia rescinds its MoU signed with the secessionist region of Somaliland on January 1.
So far, President Mohamud has refused to enter into talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed unless he publicly withdraws from the MoU, which has sparked a diplomatic row between the two neighboring nations.
