Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed issued a press release regarding his meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Nairobi on Friday.
The meeting, organized and financed by their sub-clan elders, was intended to push the two men to find common ground on national issues that radically oppose them.
Among the contentious issues listed in the communique are the reworking of the constitution, the country's political turnaround and the dispute between President Mohamud's government and the regional state of Puntland.
In all cases, according to Sharif, the president has been inflexible. As a result, Sharif felt obliged to abandon the talks, since Mohamud had made no effort to make concessions for the sake of the nation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been summoned to Nairobi to listen to his Kenyan counterpart's proposal to defuse the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia.
President William Ruto, in coordination with Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh, wants to convince the Somali president to give Ethiopia access to the Red Sea before Ethiopia rescinds its MoU signed with the secessionist region of Somaliland on January 1.
So far, President Mohamud has refused to enter into talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed unless he publicly withdraws from the MoU, which has sparked a diplomatic row between the two neighboring nations.

A group of British lobbyists visiting Hargeisa, stronghold of the clan-based Somali secessionists, vow to work towards making Somaliland a state independent from Somalia.

UK officially recognizes one Somalia but has been assisting behind the curtain the secessionist region to function independently for the last 3 decades.

The most controversial British support was the militarized police force used to harass, torture and assassinate anti-secessionist individuals and political dissenters from Awdal and in the now free SSC-Khaatumo region.

Somaliland's desperation for recognition as an independent state has attract lobbyists from the US, UK, EU and even from some African nations.

The secessionists have spent millions of dollars on this lobbying that only drained this impoverished region's revenues.

One day after Puntland signed a cooperation deal with Ethiopia, the federal government expelled the Ethiopian ambassador and demanded the closure of its consulates in Hargeisa (Somaliland) and Garowe (Puntland).

As expected, the two self-governing regions at odds with the federal government quickly rejected Mogadishu's appeal.

The Somali government under President Hassan Sheikh Mahmud has alienated itself from regional states and has no means of enforcing its orders outside the national capital.
